Which one fits? Measure their leg, sitting down

A drift trike is sized on seated leg length, not on height and not on age. They sit in a bucket seat and pedal with their legs out in front, so the question is not how tall they are, it is how far they can reach from the seat to the pedal.

Sit them on a chair, feet flat on the floor.
Measure from their belt down to the bottom of their foot.
That number is their seated leg length. Match it to the table below.

All three seats move, so there is room to grow. The two Madd Gear trikes have two set positions each. The Triad Underworld 5 has a quick release slider, so it adjusts to anywhere in its range rather than jumping between fixed points.

What a drift trike actually is

Pedals on the front, slick wheels on the back, and nothing to stop the back end sliding.

You pedal the front wheel like a bike. The two rear wheels are hard plastic with no grip by design, so the moment you turn, the back swings out and you are drifting. Rally car sideways, on your own driveway.

It is the easiest kind of sideways there is. No engine, no battery, no throttle. Just legs, a hand brake on the front wheel, and a bit of nerve.

Blow-moulded fat tread rear wheels, so sliding, drifting and full 360s come easily. The bucket seat locks in two positions to suit the rider, and a sturdy rubber front tyre and an easy hand brake keep them in control while they work it out.

The perfect sliding machine, and where they go when the Mini Drift starts to look small.

Height is not the test, leg length is. Measure from the back of the seat to the pedal at its furthest point. The bucket seat has two positions: the front one suits a leg of 65 to 70cm and the back one 84 to 89cm, so there is a lot of growing room between them.

The rear wheels are meant to wear. They are hard plastic with no tread by design, and drifting is exactly the thing that wears them. Rough seal wears them much faster than smooth concrete.

We stock replacement wheels for all three, and the rest of the spare parts, in drift trike parts. The Mini Drift and the Drift 2.0 take different size rear wheels, so check which one you have.

Sliding sometimes means stopping suddenly, and the ground is the same hardness it has always been. We stock helmets and pads sized for the same riders, and one that actually fits matters far more than what is printed on the side.

The things people ask before they buy

How do I know which size to get?

Measure from the back of the seat to the pedal at its furthest point of rotation, with them sitting in it. That is their seated leg length, and it is what decides the trike. Age is a guide, leg length is the answer.

What surface do they work on?

Smooth concrete, like a flat driveway. Rough seal works too, it just wears the rear wheels much faster, because those wheels are meant to slide rather than grip.

These are designed for use around private property. If you want to ride one somewhere else, check with your local authority first, as the rules vary by region.

Do the rear wheels wear out?

There is nothing on the rear wheels, which is the whole point.

Will it fit a bigger kid or an adult?

Yes. The Triad Underworld 5 is built for 13 and up, carries 100kg, and takes a seated leg of 95cm to 115cm. The Mini Drift stops at 68kg and the Drift 2.0 at 80kg.

Does the seat adjust?

Yes, on all three. The two Madd Gear trikes have two set positions each. The Triad Underworld 5 has a quick release slider, so it adjusts to anywhere between 95cm and 115cm rather than jumping between fixed points.
